Day 183- How to Clean Suede

I wore a pair of new suede heels to an interview yesterday.  Unfortunately, they got a little muddy.  So I looked on Pinterest to see how to clean suede.  Luckily, I found this pin about how to clean suede naturally.

All you need are clean towels, a rubber eraser, and a stiff bristle brush.  Your eraser should be nice and clean (no pencil rubbings).

Step 1: Brust the suede with a clean, dry ran.  Rub the suede in different dirctions to get all the dirt.  Some spots might be stubborn.

Step 2: Rub the eraser in a circular motion over any stain that is left.

Step 3: Use the brush to remove the eraser rubbings and loosened dirt.

That's it.  It's so simple and my shoes look great now.

Day 182- Phone Interview Tips

I had a phone interview yesterday.  Before it, I looked to see if Pinterest had any advice for me.  I was glad that it did because the only advice that my mom gave was "don't laugh.  You should stupid when you laugh on the phone."  I'm pretty sure that she meant that I, personally, sound stupid when I laugh on the phone.  I think she gave me a complex because I purposely haven't laughed on a call since she said that.

Anyways, Pinterest was more helpful.  I found this pin.  It has some great tips.

I had a copy of my resume and a list of questions and answers in front of me.  It was nice to know that I had prepared some answer for the basic questions.

I did dress up.  Well, I wore jeans.  It helped me feel a little bit more professional.  I didn't want to wear a blazer in my living room for no reason.

I called my mom before hand to make sure that she could hear me well from where I was sitting.  I don't get good reception in my house sometimes.

I slowed down when speaking.  I know that it is hard to hear someone if they talk fast on the phone, so I tried hard to keep a good pace.

I put my IPhone headphones on so I could use my hands while speaking.  I didn't have to worry about holding the phone and moving my hands around helped with nerves.

I would have to say this pin helped me a lot.  I aced the phone interview and have a face-to-face interview next week.

Day 181- Games of Thrones Drinking Game

I love a good drinking game.  It makes your favorite shows so much more interesting.  I found the Game of Thrones drinking game.

I haven't tried it yet, but it seems like a killer.

Pinned Image

You have to drink every time people have sex, Jon is called a bastard, Tyrion says something sexual, etc.  You drink every time swords are drawn.  In some episodes, that alone can get you extremely drunk.

I think that you can get drunk pretty easy with this one.

Day 180- The Many Moods of Kristin Stewart

I just don't get the obsession with Kristin Stewart.  I'm sorry.  I just don't.  She is a terrible actress.  Actresses are supposed to show emotion, but Stewart seems to go out of her way to suppress any type of facial expression.

I'm glad that I'm not the only one who feels this way.  There are a ton of pins dedicated to this idea.

Here are some of my favorites.

"I don't always smile, but when I do, I don't."

Day 179- Albino Gorillas

When I saw this pin, my reaction was "That is an ugly man!"  Then, I read the caption.  It's an albino gorilla!  It blew my mind.  It looks so human.  It's kind of creepy how much it looks like a person.

I can't stop staring at it.  Part of me feels like this has to be photoshopped, but a larger part of me believes that it is real.

Pinned Image

Update:  I googled it and found a wikipedia page for him.  His name was Snowflake and he was the only albino gorilla ever known!  Read the page.  It's very cool.

Snowflake had 22 children.  Only 6 of them survived to adulthood.  None of his children or grandchildren were albino.

Day 178- Plant Cell

This kid is going places.  I love when students get creative when they don't know the answer.  The best part of this picture is that the plant is sad because he's in a cell.

Day 177- Advil Pimple Cure

I wanted this to work so bad.  For weeks, I have been seeing a pin about using Advil gelcaps to get rid of pimples.

You cut open a gelcap and apply the gel to your pimples.  The swelling and redness is supposed to go away within an hour.

I tried it on a few pimples yesterday.  The gel was sticky and makes your face sticky.  Just an FYI.  You need to make sure your hair is tied back; otherwise, it will get sticky and stick to your face.  I learned that from experience.

I waited for an hour and looked in the mirror.  My face looked the same except it was sticky.  My pimples were still red and still puffy.

The only thing that did happen was that my painful pimple by my nose did stop hurting.  That was probably because I applied a pain reliever to it.

Day 176- Write on Desks with Sharpies

As a substitute/ future-teacher I hate those nametags that teachers stick to the desk.  At least half the class is constantly picking at them.  Dirt is always stuck in the tape.  They are just a distraction.

This pin has a solution for them.  You can write on the desks with Sharpies!  They don't rub off.  Students can't pick at them.  They aren't any type of distraction.

At the end of the year, you write over the Sharpie with an Expo marker and wipe it clean with a tissue.  Now, it's clean and ready to write the name on for next year.

You can also use rubbing alcohol or hand sanitizer to remove Sharpie ink from the desks.  If you clean the desks with an alcohol-based cleaner, the Sharpie will come off, so be aware of that.

This Sharpie trick can be used on any shiny surface including laminated posters.

I love this pin and will use it when I get my own classroom.

Day 174- Real Movie Posters

This pin is about movie posters.  They tell the truth about the movies.  I like the one about "Silver Linings Playbook."  They renamed it "Stalkers and Weirdos Need Love Too."  I think that sums up the movie pretty well.

Day 173- Hey girl part 2

I know I posted some of my favorite "Hey Girl" memes, but I found this today and I had to post it.  This is my favorite Ryan Gosling "Hey Girl" ever!

"Hey girl, i know you're busy on Pinterest... but I'd rather be pinning you."

So funny

Day 172- Defrosting cars

We had freezing rain all day last Sunday, so Monday morning I had to defrost my car windows.  It took a good half hour to get my windows cleared.  I broke two scrapers doing so.  The ice was so thick.  It was ridiculous.

Don't get me started on how my garbage can lid was frozen to the can.  I couldn't throw my garbage away until the next day when it got warmer.

This pin reminded me of Monday morning when I was swearing at the ice.

Day 171- Turn Vegetables into Spaghetti

I have often wondered about using vegetables as pasta.  It would be a good way to add vegetables into your diet.  Spaghetti squash can be used in place of spaghetti noodles, but I often wondered about using other vegetables.

I found this pin which is a kitchen gadget that grinds vegetables into noodle shapes.  I tried to find out where to order this, but it took me to a site that wasn't in English.  Does anyone know where to buy this? Or is it just a prototype?  I seriously want to buy this.

Day 170- Oh, to be a college student again

I don't know why I didn't think of this when I was in college.  It's the perfect way to procrastinate for another couple of days.

When I was in college, there were plenty of times that I was working on an assignment and there was no way to finish it before it was due.  I would hurry up and half-ass most of it.  Then, I would have to email it to my professor.

I can't believe that I didn't think of this.  I could have used this so many times.  It's amazing how you to can use technology to get extra time for an assignment.

What to do when there isn't enough time to finish your work?  The answer is here:

Day 169- Get Longer Eyelashes

I saw this pin and was very skeptical.  It says that you can get longer eyelashes by putting coconut oil on them.

I always want longer eyelashes, so i decided try it out.

I got a disposable mascara wand.  Every night before bed, I would dip the wand in coconut oil (a little goes a long way) and applied it to my eyelashes.  If I put too much on, the oil would get into my eyes and sting a little.

I have been doing this for two weeks and have seen amazing results.  I can see how much longer and and thicker my eyelashes are.  Just after two weeks!

They are also so much softer.  My mascara lasts so much longer.  It never flakes off anymore like it used to.

This is one of the best pins I've done in a long time.

Day 168- People of Walmart

Why can't those people ever be at my Walmart?  Every time I go to Walmart, all I see are people in sweatpants who haven't showered in a week.  Seriously, I'm not getting dressed up for Walmart, but at least I have showered when I go.  Walmart smells bad because it's clientele smells bad.

I saw this pin and wished that I could have been there.  Maybe Walmart should open up another register.  That line looks pretty long.

Seriously.  Why do they have twenty registers and only have three open?  Their lines are so long.

Day 167- This meme looks like my cat

I saw this pin and freaked out.  It looks so much like my cat.  I took a picture of my cat, Sammy.  It's not the best picture of him, but he wasn't cooperating with me.  I woke him up from a nap to take the picture, so he's giving me a death glare.

However, when he runs through the house, Sammy has the same look on his face as the cat in the meme.  His eyes get big and he runs as fast as he can into another room.  We think he's nuts.

Day 166- Instant Speakers

 Pinned Image

I tried this pin.  As much as I hate to admit it, I put my earphones in my nostrils and opened my mouth to see if music would come out.

It worked a little bit.  The music wasn't very loud when it came out of my mouth.  I don't think you could hear it if you stood across the room from me, but it did turn my mouth into speakers- kinda.

I would still invest in a pair of speakers or put your IPod in a bowl to make speakers instead of this.

Day 165- Overprotective Dad

What drew me to this pin was not the overprotective dad who taped 'no' over the 60mph+ part of the spedometer of his child's car.

No, I was drawn to the funny comment by the pinner, who said "Apparently he needs to be protective, because his retard kid is taking pictures on his phone while going 60 mph."

If you look at the picture, the spedometer is at 60mph and the rpm is over the 2.  This kid is an idiot.  Who takes a picture while driving.  It's not safe.

That father obviously knew that his child is stupid and does stupid things.  I hope that kid realizes that he proved his father right and will drive more carefully now.

Some people shouldn't be allowed to drive.

Day 164- power outage

My power is out! This is how I feel. My laptop is dead so my only option is to party.

I guess I could sleep.

Day 163- Fix a stripped hole

This is a pin for a DIYer.  You can fix a stripped hole with a golf tee!  Who would have thought?  This would have saved me a lot of time and money.

I can't wait for someone to pull the handle off our sunroom door, so I can use this time.  (It happens once a week, so I won't have to wait long.)

 Pinned Image
Fixing a stripped hole with a golf tee:

1. Put wood glue in the hole

2. Hammer golf tee into hole

3. Use box cutter to cut off excess tee

4. Drill pilot hole and screw new screw directly into the tee!

Day 161- Clear Ice Cubes

I don't like when ice cubes are cloudy.  It always amazes me when I go to a restaurant and the ice cubes are clear.  I always wondered how they do that. And now I know how!

I stumbled upon a pin that says to boil the water before you freeze it.  I was skeptical about this at first, but I tried it and, surprisingly, it works.

I will never make ice cubes out of cold water again.

Day 160- when to get the best deals

I'm always curious about when I should buy certain items.  I know that there is a cycle of sale prices every year.

This pin has created a list of when to buy certain things.  It is useful to get the best possible price.

January is the time to buy Christmas items, new appliances and china.  Very interesting.

I need a new car. I guess I will have to wait until September to get it.  Rats!

Day 159- New Alarm Name

One of my favorite features of my IPhone is the fact that I can name my alarms.  Right now, my alarm says "Get your butt out of bed!!!!"

Every morning, it reminds me to get out of bed.  It's like leaving a message for yourself- a message not to hit the snooze button and go back to sleep.

Well, I'm changing my alarm name ever since I saw this pin.  I have to change my alarm to say, "If Frodo can get the ring to Mordor, you can get out of bed."

That should motivate me every morning to stay awake.

Day 158 -I love fact pins

I love the pins that have interesting facts on them.  Some of them seem so unbelievable.

Now, I know that just because the Internet says so doesn't mean that it is true.  I goggled a couple of the facts in this pin and they seem to be legit.  Crazy.

I can't believe that the fact about Grand Central Station producing such a high amount of radiation is true, but it is.  I googled it and asked my sister who is a scientist about it.  Both sources confirmed it.

Day 157- Facial Massage

I saw this pin about acupressure points for beautiful skin.

The website gives you four different places that you are supposed to massage for 30-60 seconds 3 times a week.

The first is The Third Eye which is between your eyebrows and right above your nose.  This supposedly stimulates the pituitary gland and enhance skin conditions throughout the body.

The second is Four Whites.  It is located on your cheeks about 1 inch below the pupils.  When you massage it, you should feel your cheek bones.  This allegedly cures acne.

The third point is Facial Beauty.  It's right below the second point, so it's under your cheekbone.  Facial Beauty stops acne, blemishes, and sagging cheeks.  It also fixes poor complexion and improves facial circulation.

The fourth point is Heavenly Appearance.  This is located just behind the jaw and under the earlobe.  It balances the thyroid gland, increases skin luster, and relieves hives.

They say that it can take 3-4 weeks to see results.

If this works, it is amazing.  I tried it today.  Obviously, my skin didn't suddenly improve, but my headache that I have had for the last week disappeared almost immediately.

Day 156- Keratosis Pilaris

Those little bumps on the back of my arm bother me. Well, they don’t cause pain or irritation.  That’s not what I mean.  Their mere existence bothers me.

I hate wearing tank tops because they show the bumps which are called keratosis pilaris.  I want to get rid of them, but when I went to my dermatologist she didn’t really care.  She didn’t tell me how to get rid of them or what to do about them.  She just shrugged her shoulders and said that they would go away eventually.  That’s exactly what she said about my acne and my skin infection.

I think it’s time to get a new dermatologist.

Anyways, I saw this pin that said to make a paste from olive oil and sugar.  Apply it to the area and rub it in.  I used coconut oil instead of olive oil.  However, I tried this for the past week.  It works!

My arms are smoother and there are a lot less bumps.  If I keep this up, I’m sure that they will go away.

The pin also says you can use aspirin dissolved in warm water, but I never tried that.

Day 155- New Year's Resolutions

I saw a pin that had the most popular New Year’s resolutionsfor 2011.  Since New Year’s Day was yesterday, I’m still working on what my resolutions should be.
This pin was a top ten list, so I figured it would help me make some good ones.

Last year, I made one resolution – to read one book a week for the year.  I did it!  I managed to read 73 books by the end of the year.  I met my goal of 52 by the end of October.
Since I have momentum from last year, I’m feeling pretty confident that I will achieve any goals I set this year.

Here are my thoughts about the ton ten resolutions of 2011.
1.       Drink less alcohol – No thank you.  I don’t think I drink enough alcohol.
2.       Get a better education – I’m still paying off my student loans, so I’m not ready to go back to school.
3.       Get a better job – Yes, please!  I need a full-time, well-paying job.  Heck, I’d even take an OK-paying job.
4.       Get fit – I’m working on that too.  I’m joining a gym this week!
5.       Lose weight – see above
6.       Manage debt/ save money – I want to pay off my student loans this year.  I’m half way there.
7.       Reduce stress – That would be nice.
8.       Quit smoking – I don’t smoke.
9.       Take a vacation – I could after I pay off my student loans.
10.   Volunteer to help others – Of course.  Who wouldn’t say they wanted to help others.  I’ll figure out a place to volunteer.

In summary, I have decided to lose weight/ get fit, pay off my student loans, reduce stress, take a vacation, get a better job, and volunteer.

Whoa!  That’s a lot.

However, I want to end this year better than I started it.  Wish me luck!

Day 154- Thicker Eyelashes

This pin gives a tip about how to make your eyelashes look thicker and longer.  It sounded good, so I wanted to give it a try.  I have long lashes, but they are thin and point straight out.  The fact that my eyelashes don't curl well make them look shorter than they really are.

You apply one coat of mascara.  Then, you dip a q-tip in a little baby powder and run across lashes, focusing on the tips. Apply a second coat of mascara.

The second coat will attach to the powder for a longer, fuller look.

I tried this and ended up with a mess.  My q-tip took more mascara off my lashes than put powder on them.  My mascara brush has baby powder on it.

The end result didn't look bad.  It just looked like I had clumpy mascara.  I won't do it again.  It certainly didn't look like false eyelashes like the pin claimed.

It's not worth it.  It doesn't work as well as I would have hoped it to.
