Pinned Image

I cracked up when I saw this pin.  When I get a teaching job, this is what I will stamp on failing paper- "You shall not pass."

Best stamp ever.

Day 211- Pinsomnia

I think i have Pinsomnia- "the inability to get enough sleep because you keep clicking "see more pins" just one more time."  This is what I do whenever I can.

 Thanks, Pinterest!

Day 209- Fighting Eczema

I do not have eczema, but I do have a chronic skin infection.  I saw this pin about using a bleach bath to treat eczema and thought that it couldn't hurt.

According to the pin, the bleach kills staphylococcus aureus bacteria which 90% of eczema sufferers have on their skin.  I figured it would kill the bacteria on mine as well.  It is best to take a lukewarm bath as opposed to a hot bath because a lukewarm bath is less harsh on the skin and won't dry it out as much.

Ingredients:
40 gallons of lukewarm water (full bathtub)
1/2 cup bleach

Instructions:
Pour bleach into tub as it is running to ensure that it is well dispersed. Fill the tub to the brim with warm (not hot) water.

Directions:
For a severe eczema outbreak take 20 minute lukewarm baths, twice a day for a week, trying to be as fully immersed as possible. Moisturize skin immediately after soaking.

This treatment is also safe for children.

I was really careful not to get my hair wet.  I didn't know how harsh it would be on it.

I thought the bath worked really well.  I think my skin infection looks better and it doesn't have that weird infected smell it sometimes gets when I have a bad outbreak (is that the right word for it?  I feel like I'm talking about herpes or something).

I hope this works as well for eczema sufferers.

Day 208- Insomnia

Legend says when you can't sleep at night, it's because you're awake in someone else's dream.

So if everyone could stop dreaming about me, that would be great.

Now I know why I can't sleep at night.  Thanks, Pinterest.

Day 207- Insprirational quote

I needed to hear this today.  Pinterest gets me sometimes.

It's gonna get harder before it gets easier.  But it will get better, you just gotta make it through the hard stuff first.

Day 204- Make a five point star with one cut

Ok, so this pin advertised how to cut a five point star with one cut.  It lies.  You need two cuts.  You only need to make one cut if you start with a 8.5 by10 sheet of paper.  Who has that?

You have to cut a 8.5 by 11 sheet down to size.  Thus, making an extra cut.

The directions are a little confusing.  It took me a couple of tries to get it right, but once I figured it out, it was easy.

It makes a perfectly even 5-point star.  Amazing!  i will never make an uneven star again.

Day 203- I don't miss this about school

I never understood how the desks just kept getting smaller and smaller.  It would drive me crazy.  This pin is so true.

School desks were the worst part of being left handed.  I would have to write with my arm completely across my body.  It was such a pain.  I don't understand how anybody is expected to write on a little wooden square, much less a left handed person.

I know that they make left handed desks like this, but my high school was too cheap to actually buy one.

Day 202- Panera Bread Mac and Cheese Recipe

We love Panera Bread’s Mac and Cheese.  It’s so good, but so bad for you.  A large is like 1000 calories!  I saw this pin abouta copycat recipe for the mac and cheese, so I decided to try it.

Here is the recipe:

Panera Bread's Stove Top Mac and Cheese
16 oz pasta shells
4 tbsp butter
1/3 to 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
2-1/2 cups milk or heavy cream
4 oz white American cheese, chopped or torn into pieces
8 oz extra sharp white Vermont cheddar, shredded
1 tbsp Dijon mustard
1 tsp Kosher salt
1/4 tsp Frank's hot sauce

In a large stockpot, cook pasta according to package directions. Drain well.

While the pasta cooks, melt the butter in a small sauce pan over medium heat. When the butter has melted and has started to bubble, whisk in the flour; cook for 1-1/2 minutes whisking constantly.  Gradually whisk in the milk until no lumps remain. Reduce the heat to medium-low and cook milk mixture, whisking frequently, until it thickens and bubbles, about 8 minutes.

Remove sauce pan from the heat and by the handful, stir in the cheeses allowing all of the cheese to melt into the sauce before adding more. Stir in the mustard, salt, and hot sauce. Return the sauce pan to the heat and stir in the pasta. Be sure to stir up the sauce from the bottom of the sauce pan and thoroughly coat all of the pasta with sauce. Cook for 1-2 minutes over medium-low heat until heated through.

Let’s just say that mine was not as good as Panera’s.  In fact, mine wasn’t good at all.  I followed the recipe exactly.  I think it was the flour.  It made the sauce gritty.  I would try it again without the flour.  And one tbsp. of Dijon mustard was way too much.  I used less than half of that and the taste was still the most predominate taste.

I has such high hopes for this recipe.  Maybe it’s me.  Has anyone had any success with this recipe or something like it?

Day 200- Dry Erase Marker Erasers

Since I am looking for a teaching job, I love to find little tips to make things in the classroom easier.  Students always seem to lose dry erase markers and spend time looking around for them.  For some reason, the dry erase board, marker, and eraser are never in the same spot in the student's desk.

This pin helps solve this problem.

Glue a pompom to the end of the dry erase marker for the students to use as an eraser.

Actually, I would glue the pompom to the top of the top, so the students could put the top on the end of the marker when in use.  I know how students tend to lose the tops if they don't put them on the end of the marker as soon as they take them off.

Day 199- How to care for newly waxed skin

I hate when my skin gets red from waxing.  I look like a freak with little red bumps all over for a few hours post-wax.  I mean, all over.  I have bad luck with hair genes.  My arms, face, and legs are hairier than they should be.  It’s my dad’s fault.    Needless to say, waxing is a big part of my beauty routine.
I have to do it myself since I had a bad experience with a professional waxer ripping off a large chunk of skin below my eyebrow.  That happened the first and only time I let someone else wax me.  Never again.

After I waxed, I went over to Pinterest to see if there were any post-waxing tips.  I found this pin about taking can of newly waxed skin.

Here are some tips:

Use lotion.  You should use a lotion with lavender or aloe in it.  Those two ingredients will help soothe any burning sensation and help reduce redness.  Avoid heavy creams or lotions for at least twelve hours after waxing.  Don’t use anything scented either.  That includes deodorants on freshly waxed armpits.

Taking a bath in cool water helps to calm the skin.  You should not expose newly waxed skin to heat for at least twelve hours.  Don’t use exfoliating creams, harsh soaps, or scrubs either.

A cold compress with reduce swelling, redness, and pain.

Wear loose fitting cotton clothes over the recently waxed skin.  Tight clothes can irritate the skin by rubbing it.  This will also reduce  the chance of a skin infection.

Day 198- 52 Week Money Challenge

I saw the 52 week money challenge on Pinterest today.  It intrigued me.  I love saving money especially the thought of saving $1378.00 for something fun like a vacation.

I got my jar and put $28.00 in there since I missed a couple of weeks.  If I remember to do this, I will have $1378.00 on Janurary 1, 2014.  What a way to start the new year!

The only problem with this is that I never have cash.  I don't have any use for it.  I guess I will just have to make weekly trips to the bank.  They will love it next week when I ask for only $8.00.

Day 197- How to clean your computer screen

Today I brought my laptop to my friend's house.  My laptop was sitting on my friend's lap and I noticed how dusty my screen was.

As soon as I got home, I went on Pinterest to see if there were any tips on how to clean a computer screen.

This is what I found.

First, you turn off your computer.

Dip a lint-free cloth water and squeeze out the excess.  Gentle wipe the screen.  When all the smudges and dirt are gone, use a dry part of the cloth to dry the screen.

Use Q-tips dipped in water to clean between the keys.

Now, my laptop looks great.  It was so simple.

Helpful hint: to clean between the keys, run the sticky side of a Post-it note in the crevices.  The dirt will

Day 196- My relationship status

In honor of Valentine's day on Thursday, I saw this pin and had to blog it.  This is how I am going to spend my Valentine's day with Netflix, oreos, and sweatpants.  Even if I had a boyfriend, I think I would prefer to spend it like that anyways.

My relationship status?

Day 195- Drop a pants size workout

This pin says that this workout will help you lose a pants size if you do it 2-3 times a week.  Interesting.  I'll be trying this one out.

Day 194- Spill Proof Packing

I hate wasting ziplock bags when I travel.  They don't stop leaking; they just contain it.  I used them when packing because I wasn't aware that there was a better way to pack until I saw this pin

You unscrew the lids of the bottles and put plastic wrap over the opening.  Then, screw the lid back on.  It's a much easier solution and makes the bottles spill proof.

Amazing!

Day 193- Turn George Washington into a Disney princess

I don't know if this is disrespectful or not, but I do know that it's funny.

I have a couple of dollars in my purse that are begging to be turned into George-rella or the Little Washington.

What a way to spend a Saturday!  I may have to frame them.

Day 192- Snug Life

I was wrapped up in a blanket this morning and I decided that the person who invented The Snuggy has to be a genius.  I was trying to type, but my blanket kept getting in the way.  I need to invest in a Snuggy.

Anyways, I found this pin today which represents how I felt.

I didn't choose the snug life.  The snug life chose me.

I could get into that.  The lady in the picture looks so comfortable and warm.

Where do you buy a Snuggy?

Day 191- The perfect chair

I need this.  It’s a chair that you can lean back in without being afraid of falling backwards.  I love this!
My mom always yells at me for ruining her chairs.  I guess the joke is on her now.

Day 190- Call Hogwarts

I saw this pin where you can call Hogwarts.  I called it to check it out.  I'm not into Harry Potter, but it seemed cool.

Anyways, I texted my sister who loves Harry Potter.  I told her the number and this is how she responded, "Muggle contraptions don't work at Hogwarts.  So actually I can't."

I can't believe we are related.  She is beyond weird.
